Sardinia

Sardinia is a splendid island that offers landscapes of great beauty and variety: from wonderful beaches bathed by a crystal clear sea to the charming villages of the interior.

Located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia is a small paradise that has much to offer visitors. Not just sea and beaches, but also mountains, picturesque villages, archaeology sites, mysterious ancient civilisations, old traditions and delicious food. There are numerous places and countless features that are well worth exploring.

The island is particularly famous for the beauty of its sea and beaches. The Emerald Coast, with its most magnificent treasure, Porto Cervo, is an extraordinary example. In this splendid marine setting characterised by a rugged coastline, headlands, bays and cliffs, relaxation merges with a vibrant nightlife. Its architecture is particularly characteristic, made up of small, low, white buildings perfectly integrated into the Mediterranean vegetation. The Archipelago of La Maddalena, now a national park, is also extremely beautiful and enchants visitors with its wonderful landscape, considered to be one of the most spectacular in the world.

Set in a quiet and welcoming gulf, Cagliari is a city rich in history, art and culture, which offers many opportunities for recreation. It is one of the many surprises in store in the south of the island. Its old town, characterised by narrow streets lined with very old buildings and pretty, interesting churches, is very beautiful. Visitors really should not miss the ancient Castello district, the real symbol of the city, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and Santa Cecilia, the National Archaeological Museum, a real treasure chest of history and art, and the Umberto I terrace, which offers a splendid view of the city.

The island's wonders also include fascinating Nuragic complexes, truncated cone shaped stone buildings that bear witness to an ancient and still partly mysterious culture. They include the Nuraghe di Losa, one of the most important and best preserved, whose structure is very impressive, given that the highest tower still reaches a height of 13 metres, and the complex of Barumini, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
