Tourist taxes in Italy
With the introduction of the law on municipal fiscal federalism approved in parliament on 3 March 2011, the Italian government granted municipal authorities the right to introduce a tourist tax of a maximum of € 5.00 per person per night.
At the moment we are unable to provide more information but we assume that municipalities with a high level of tourism relevance will soon introduce this tax, payable by visitors to Italy.
We apologise on behalf of the Italian government for the lack of sensitivity shown towards foreign guests who are being increasingly mistreated by the introduction of taxes which discourage them from staying in our cities.
We also wish to inform you that all rates and periods indicated may be subject to change, as they are determined by each individual town council.
